Yentl, a dedicated 30-year-old, has been passionately committed to animals in need for many years. She runs ‘Het Konijnenhof’, a recognized shelter for rabbits and rodents in Stekene (Belgium). Every day, she works intensively to care for neglected, confiscated, dumped, and found rabbits and rodents.

From an early age, she has a deep appreciation and interest in these animals. Her main goal is to provide as many rabbits as possible with a loving forever home. Yentl is deeply committed to her mission and wants to make a valuable contribution to solving this often-underestimated social problem.

What began 10 years ago as a small-scale shelter has grown into one of the largest in the Benelux. The demand for shelter for rabbits and rodents has increased over the years. Yentl now welcomes an average of 3 rabbits per day, which is exceptionally. Over the years, the reputation of ‘Het Konijnenhof’ has grown, and animal protection agencies, local authorities, and animal welfare organisations regularly turn to the shelter for support. Over the past 10 years, more than 10,000 animals have been rescued.

With her unconditional love for rabbits, Yentl has made ‘Het Konijnenhof’ her life’s work. She continuously strives to improve the well-being of rabbits so that they can live under the best possible conditions.

It is also her mission to raise awareness as much as possible about the needs and values of rabbits. By increasing this awareness, she hopes to broaden people's perspectives and create a better future for rabbits. Yentl hopes that her efforts will lead more people to appreciate the importance of providing compassionate care and a loving environment for these special animals.

A Warm Home for the Most Vulnerable

Het Konijnenhof also offers a permanent home to chronically ill, elderly, and severely abused rabbits. Due to various reasons, these animals can no longer be rehomed and instead find comfort and stability in the loving care at ‘Het Konijnenhof’.

More Than Just Rabbits

Along with managing the rabbit and rodent shelter, Yentl has also welcomed many other animals into her care, offering them the support and attention they need. In recent years, dogs, cats, and horses have found their permanent safe home under her care. Many of these animals come from troubled backgrounds with significant traumas, and Yentl has been their final beacon of hope. They have found a secure and permanent home under her care.

Disaster Strikes

Unfortunately, disaster has struck hard. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Yentl and her animals have lost their safe haven. Within six months, they must find a new location where everyone can relocate and once again find a secure and comforting home.

Your Help is Needed

Yentl has devoted years to managing the financial challenges, covering expenses, and maintaining the current accommodation. As a result, she lacks the financial resources to acquire a new location. She is hoping for the support of fellow animal lovers to continue her invaluable work—a safe haven for all animals—and to rebuild it in a new setting.
